FREE Parent Workshop – PROMPT Therapy: What is It & How Can It Help My Child?

An Evening with Tracy Huppert Magee, MEd, CCC-SLP

Please join us for an informative night with Spectrum Pediatrics’ speech language pathologist, Tracy Huppert Magee, as she provides information on the basics of the PROMPT program and how it benefits a variety of children with specific speech and language disorders. PROMPT Therapy is an acronym for Prompts for Restructuring Oral Muscular Phonetic Targets. This speech language therapy technique is unique in its multi- faceted approach to aid clients in their ability to produce sounds, words, and phrases. Tracy will demonstrate the specialized tactile cues for participants. A question and answer portion will also be included in the presentation to target your specific questions about the approach and your child. Please join us for an informative night with Spectrum Pediatrics’ speech-language pathologist, Brianna Craite, as she provides information on the basics of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC). Brianna will help define AAC and explore the many options available, including pictures and communication devices. She will also outline the many ways these tools can help your child interact with those around them. A portion of the presentation will focus specifically on iPad/iPhone applications that may facilitate your child’s communication skills. Families are encouraged but not required to bring their own technology devices for hands-on demonstrations.

Potty Training Your Toddler

Toddler Talk – Information about Your Child’s Language Development

Please join us for an informative night with Spectrum Pediatrics’ speech-language pathologist, Lauren Civiello, as she provides information on the basics of language development. Lauren will address appropriate speech milestones from birth to school age, including articulation, listening skills, sentence structure and length and stuttering. A specific emphasis will be placed on the toddler years from age one to four. Lauren will also share some general strategies for parents to apply in the home to encourage listening and speaking skills. A portion of the presentation will also address speech evaluations and the components of a language assessment. Planning for the Life Stages of Your Child with Special Needs

Preparing your family and your child with special needs for the future is not a choice. It’s a necessity. It is imperative that plans are in place to ensure that your child is legally and financially ready for the future. Please join us for an informative night with a team of Special Care Planners from The Washington Group to aid you in navigating these tough subjects. They will address the topics of guardianship, trustees, creating a letter of intent and preparing a will. The presenters will also provide guidance on identifying your financial resources, determining plan/care costs and establishing a special needs trust. The Special Care Planning Team at the Washington Group specializes in financial planning specifically for families with special needs, and we are excited to share their knowledge with our Spectrum Pediatrics families.

Family Night – Financial Planning for the Future

We often receive questions about future planning for children with disabilities from parents, relatives, and health care providers.  You need to educate yourself about the many options available. It is never too early to start planning for your child’s future.  How can you ensure that your child receives appropriate therapies and medical treatments?  How can you find appropriate caregivers who will carry out your wishes and respect your child’s goals, dreams and life expectations? In this workshop we will address these issues, as well as:

  • What you need to know about living arrangements, wills, trusts, guardianship and other estate planning issues.
  • Trusts, including special needs trusts and how they differ from other types of trusts.
  • Guardianship issues, advance medical directives, tax-saving strategies
  • How to create a sound financial plan for your special needs child.
