spectrum pediatrics tube weaning programTube dependent children are among the most fragile of emerging eaters and often experience prolonged treatment in order to progress toward oral eating. Therapists who work with this population are always searching for the best way to help their patients. The Pediatric Feeding and Dysphagia Newsletter is a great source of information for therapists and families who have children who struggle with feeding and swallowing problems. Heidi Moreland, the clinical coordinator of the Spectrum Pediatrics Tube Weaning Program, had the opportunity to do a guest blog in a recent edition. She lists the 4 things all tube-fed kids deserve as they make the transition to being “eaters.” The article also explains the foundations of Spectrum’s tube weaning program and the components that make Spectrum successful for kids and families, with a particular emphasis on family meals and managing stress around mealtimes. She describes the “whole child” and “whole family” approach that is integral to making oral eating sustainable and enjoyable for everyone.
